Gaining momentum and influence during the Reagan and Thatcher era, today’s neoliberal economic approach, with its intense emphasis on commercialization - financializing all aspects of life - has come to dominate life on planet Earth. The word ‘liberal’ in neoliberal has nothing to do with a progressive, loving, evolutionary approach to life. ‘Neoliberalism’ is anything but. It is a death cult, worshipping excessive money accumulation beyond all reason or need, destroying the environment, undermining quality of life, spiritual growth, and self-realization. For its believers it is the new religion, but this devotion to extreme materiality extinguishes the spirit of life in billions of people around the world as they struggle to provide for themselves and their families. The incessant and ever-increasing demands placed upon global society by billionaire money masters and technology titans, who have come to dominate our lives today, has brought humanity and the planet to the edge. Commenting upon life under Thatcher, actress and UK politician Glenda Jackson said, “Thatcherism wreaked the most heinous, social, economic and spiritual damage upon this country. Everything I had been taught to regard as a vice – and I still regard them as vices – under Thatcherism was in fact a virtue: greed, selfishness, no care for the weaker, sharp elbows, sharp knees.” Over the past thirty years this sad state of affairs has resulted in the greatest inequality in wealth and living standards the world has ever seen.
